When people hear “Buddha” most think of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha (563 – 483 BCE), the spiritual teacher whose teachings led to Buddhism. The word Buddha, by itself, actually refers to any person who has become enlightened through their own efforts and insight, without having any particular teacher to point the way.
